Art and Design

At St James’s we provide our children with a high-quality Art and Design education that encompasses influential artists, craft makers and designers from across a variety of time periods and cultures. We aim to deliver high quality teaching and learning opportunities that inspire our children to be successful and succeed in all disciplines taught. Whether it is drawing, sculpting, painting or printing; there is an Art form for everyone. Our Art and Design lessons equip our children with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create original pieces of art, craft and design. Children learn to look at art work in an evaluative way, expressing and justifying their opinions. Aspirations are encouraged and raised through our Art and Design curriculum, which also exposes our children to their potential artistic talent. In addition to using art as a form of pleasure and self-expression, we want our children to consider a career in the Arts in the future.
